Dear Parents: Can you believe we are already into October? The leaves are starting to turn and you don’t have to mow your lawn every week! Now you just have to worry about raking up all those leaves. The Mustangs are doing well in their activities as we are winding down our seasons in football, cross-country and volleyball. Thanks to all who spent time watching your children participate in these activities. It means a lot to the students and it is a great time for families to get together. We also celebrated American Indian Week district wide September 15-19. Many thanks go out to those who gave their time to our students and staff. The people are: Richard Spang who raised a teepee with the help of our students; Billie Foote spent a day with us and lent her expertise in our math and FCS classes; Shontae OldMouse spent a day showing how to make fry bread and the entire school enjoyed the treat; and Jay OldMouse showed the school his collection of flutes and graciously played for us. It was a wonderful week and enjoyed by the staff and students. FBMS would also like to thank Mrs. Roxie Wilson for the time and effort in securing activities throughout American Indian Week. As the weather is changing I need to remind you and your children of the importance of dressing according to the weather. Bringing a jacket to school is important because we will be taking advantage of going outside as much as possible during our lunchtime. The little time we spend outside should be done with the proper outerwear. **We are also asking parents to not allow your children to arrive at school before 8:00 am. The duty day does not start until 8:00 and we do not have the personnel to monitor before that time. October 7th will mark the midterm or our first trimester. Some of you may have forgotten, but we are on trimester grading periods this year and our first trimester ends November 20th. It is marked on your school calendar. You will be receiving your child’s mid-term grades the second week in October. These are official grades and will be averaged with the next six weeks for the first trimester grade. Please look for them! Note: We will be having Parent/Teacher conferences on November 5th even though our grading period will not be over. We will have a firm grasp of what your child is doing academically so come in and visit!! Another reminder to 6th grade parents is to please have your children bring colored pencils and highlighters to school. Students use them almost daily in geography and science. Winter activities will be starting this month. Remember the $25 activity fee is a one-time payment, so if your child was involved in a fall activity you are paid in full. If your child was not involved in a fall activity, he/she will need a physical and a parent consent form to be drug tested before the season starts. Please call Juli if you have questions. We are having our grand opening for our mini bank on October 7th. We are working in cooperation with First Interstate Bank and the students who open an account with our bank will receive 4% interest on their account. If your child has an account already with First Interstate they will need to start a new account or transfer their current one to our bank. Our fluoride swish program is starting the first week of October. It will be every week and continue throughout the year. If you would like your child to be a part of the swish program contact the office. **Our TAS (Tutoring After School) program is up and running and students who are on the eligibility need to go to TAS. It is every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-6:00 pm. Students who ride a bus may catch the activity bus at 6:30 to go home. Student-athletes who are on the eligibility list must attend TAS until 4:45 and then go to practice. We are continuing with our Student of the Month program. Last year was a huge success and it definitely benefited a lot of students. The Students of the Month for September are: 6th grade, Elizabeth McRae; 7th grade, Aryn Fisher: and 8th grade, Brandon Siemers. Congratulations! Again, Rosebud Foods, Montana Moose and Subway are donating gift certificates to our monthly selections. Lifetouch Pictures are October 7th. If you plan on purchasing a picture, return the envelope on picture day. All students will have their picture taken so we have it for our records. You are not obligated to purchase a package. If your child would like to bring Campbell soup labels we are still collecting them in the office. We appreciate every label donated. Swing Choir will begin soon! A sign-up sheet is in the office. As we finish the first full month of school I am asking for a few favors from all parents. If your child rides a bike to school please remind him/her the importance of following proper traffic rules and to walk their bike to the rack once they arrive on school property. I also ask you are aware of how your child is dressed for the day, whether is be according to the weather outside or according to the regulations set by the school. As the year continues and you have questions concerning Frank Brattin, give us a call or stop by and we will try our best to answer them all. Sincerely, Dinny Bennett
