Colts lose Playoff game to Conrad by: Coach Mark Ator
The Colstrip Colt football season came to a bitter end Saturday as the Colts lost to the Conrad Cowboys in first round playoff action by a final score of 46-29. The Colts were unable to overcome the big plays of the Conrad Cowboys.
The Colts first touchdown came in the beginning of the 2nd quarter when Andrew Torgerson connected with Cullen Keyes on a 23 yard pass play that closed the gap to 14-7. This play capped a 83 yard drive which featured some excellent running by Collen Grinsell. However, that would be the lone scoring drive for the Colts in the first half. Conrad was able to put up two scores right at the end of the first half to take a commanding 27-7 lead.
The Colts scored their second touchdown late in the third quarter when Torgerson and Keyes hooked up again on a touchdown pass play. This one covered 43 yards. Torgerson scored two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter on short runs. Keyes and Grinsell ran the 2 point conversions in to give the Colts their final score of 29.
Torgerson completed 11 of 28 passes for 172 yards. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more touchdowns. Collen Grinsell had 73 yards rushing on 12 carries and had 18 yards in pass receptions. Cullen Keyes had 80 yards receiving and ran for 21 yards. TJ Crippen ran for 47 yards on 9 carries. Shawn Alder had 1 catch for 35 yards and Sam Brown had 3 catches for 38 yards. Defensively the Colts were led in tackles by TJ Crippen and Ryan Hensleigh.
The Colts finished the season with a record of 7-3. Thanks to all the fans that attended the playoff game Saturday.
COLTS LOSE CLOSE GAME TO
BAKER
The Colstrip Colts traveled to Baker and lost a close, hard-fought football game by a final score of 12-6. The Baker Spartans scored within the first
minute of the game to grab a 6-0 lead. Eventually the Spartans took
advantage of a Colt Turnover and scored their second touchdown of
the game to go up 12-0. Torgerson finished the game with 12 of 23 passing for 168 yards. Adam Cozzens, Cullen Keyes, Sam Brown, Shawn Alder, and Collen Grinsell were on the receiving end of those Torgerson passes. As usual, The Colt defense was led by the efforts of TJ Crippen, who was in on numerous tackles. The Colts now have a record of 7-2. They will host a playoff game Saturday, November 1st, 2008. Game time is 1pm and the Colts will be hosting the Conrad Cowboys.
COLTS ROLL OVER LODGE
GRASS 77-0
The Colstrip Colts collected their 7th win of the season with a 77-0 lead over the Lodge Grass Indians. Eleven different Colts scored a touchdown. Defensively, the Colts scored 4 touchdowns. Cameron Ator returned an interception 83 yards for a score and Shawn Alder also returned an interception for at touchdown. Ryan Hensleigh and Karson Mennie also recovered fumbles in the endzone. Mennie also had two PAT kicks.
Andrew Torgerson completed 5 of 6 passes and had one touchdown pass to Sam Brown. Brown also had a PAT kick. Collen Grinsell had two carries for 74 yards and two touchdowns and TJ Crippen also scored a touchdown. Beau Zimmerman collected his first touchdown of the year on a 3 yard run. Tye LaFranier scored his first varsity touchdown on a 15 yard run and Caleb Nolte scored a touchdown on a 20 yard run. McQuade Stephens stepped into the backfield and scored on a 1 yard run. Tyler Boucher led the Colts in rushing with 101 yards on 4 carries.
The Colstrip Colts now have an overall record of 7-1 and are 4-0 in conference play. The Colts have qualified for the playoffs. They will travel to Baker on Friday nite to play the Spartans for the conference championship and the right to host a first round playoff game.
COLT DEFEAT HAWKS by Coach Mark Ator
The Colstrip Colts and the Broadus Hawks played their game in less than ideal conditions Friday night. There were 4 inches of snow on the ground and the snow kept falling. We even lost lighting for about 10 minutes after the teams had played 30 seconds. However, the bad weather didn’t keep the Colts from dominating the game and coming away with a 40-6 victory.
The Colt defense caused a fumble right away and put the offense in good field position. TJ Crippen and Collen Grinsell each had nice runs with Crippen finishing off the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. Grinsell then ran the 2 point conversion in and the Colts led 8-0. After the Colt defense shut down the Hawk offense down, Collen Grinsell had a 60 yard punt return. Moments later, he had a two yard run to score a touchdown. Andrew Torgerson then ran the two point conversion in and the Colts led 16-0. On the next Colt possession, The Colt defense sacked Hawks in the endzone for a safety. Shawn Alder then returned the following kickoff 34 yards to put the Colts back in scoring position. Moments later Torgerson and Alder connected on a 6 yard pass play and the Colts led 24-0. After yet another Hawk turnover, Torgerson had a 10 yard run and then completed a short pass to Grinsell for the PAT conversion and the Colts led 32-0 lead. Right before the half Torgerson connected with Grinsell on a 15 yard touchdown pass play and then the two combined on another 2 point conversion and the Colts led 40-0 halftime.
At halftime, the Colts honored their senior players. This is a group of good kids who have put in a lot of time. Those honored included Beau Zimmerman, Andrew Torgerson, Collen Grinsell, Quade Olsen, Sam Brown, Cullen Keyes, Shea Rosado, Collin Reid, McQuade Stephens, Tyler Fulkerson, Adam Cozzens, and TJ Crippen.
The Colt varsity team saw limited time in the 2nd half of the game. The Colt JV offense was led by the efforts of Caleb Nolte who had 15 carries for 54 yards. Collen Grinsell had 15 carries for 101 yards had 2 touchdowns and 3 PATS and also had 108 yards kick returns. TJ Crippen had 37 yards rushing, and a touchdown. He was also in on numerous tackles. Shawn Alder had 66 yards kick returns and also scored a touchdown. Andrew Torgerson had 1 rushing touchdown and passed for touchdowns.
Defensively, the Colts and the weather caused six Broadus Hawk fumbles. The Hawks ended up with 0 yards of total offense.
The Colts have now locked up a playoff spot. They wil host the Lodge Grass Indians in a conference battle Wednesday night and then will travel to Baker on October 24 to culminate the regular season.

Colts Split Games This Weekend by: Coach Mark Ator
The Colstrip Colts did something rare last weekend as they played two varsity football games in one week. The Colts defeated Lame Deer on Thursday by a score of 67-6 and traveled to Ririe, Idaho and lost to a good Bulldog squad by a score of 27-6. Against Lame Deer, nine different Colts scored a touchdown. TJ Crippen scored two touchdowns to lead the Colts. Cullen Keyes, Collen Grinsell, Shawn Alder, Hayden Singleton, Quade Olsen, Caleb Nolte, Tyler Boucher, and Karson Mennie all scored touchdowns for the Colts. Andrew Torgerson completed 4 of 5 passes for 89 yards and three touchdowns. Caleb Nolte and Tyler Boucher led the Colt rushing game with 54 and 49 yards respectively The Colts then traveled to Ririe Idaho and played the Bulldogs on Saturday. The Bulldogs broke up a 0-0 tie with a touchdown right before half. The teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter. Andrew Torgerson connected with Adam Cozzens on a 30 yard pass for the Colts only touchdown. The Bulldogs scored two touchdowns in the 4th quarter to put the game away. Torgerson completed 5 of 12 passes for for 55 yards. Collen Grinsell led the Colt offense with 132 yards rushing on 19 carries. TJ Crippen had a monster game defensively as he was in on 18 tackles. The Colts will look to regroup this weekend as they host the 4-1 Broadus Hawks. The Colt will also have another conference battle next Wednesday (October 15) when they host the Lodge Grass Indians. I would like to thank Colt Football parents for their support of our trip to Ririe. They helped provide meals for the athletes as well as showed up Ririe in great numbers to support the Colts. It also needs to be mentioned that at Friday night’s game vs Broadus, we will honor our senior players at halftime. Dress warm as we are expecting some snow!
Colts roll
over Dogies
The Colstrip Colts scored on their first two possessions of their football game with Forsyth and never looked back as they went on to capture a 36-6 victory over their Rosebud County rivals, the Forsyth Dogies.
Collen Grinsell and TJ Crippen had a nice runs to start the first Colt offensive possession. Andrew Torgerson then connected with Shawn Alder on a 33 yards pass for the Colts first touchdown. Collen Grinsell then connected with TJ Crippen on the two point conversion and the Colts led 8-0. After forcing a Dogie fumble, the Colt Offense was back in business. Torgerson and Grinsell worked the option play twice to get down to the 5 yard line. Grinsell then carried the ball into the endzone for touchdown. Sam Brown connected on the PAT. In the 2nd quarter, Andrew Torgerson connected with Shawn Alder and TJ Crippen consecutive pass plays to put the Colts deep into Dogie territory. Collen Grinsell then had a nice 12 yard run. Cullen Keyes finished off the drive and Sam Brown connected on the PAT kick to give the Colts a 22-0 lead. Colts finished off the 1st half in style when Torgerson connected with Alder on a 65 yard pass play with 20 seconds left in the first half. Brown’s PAT kick made the 29-0 halftime in favor of the Colts. The third quarter was tough on both teams as neither team scored. The Colts had two drives that stalled out. However, the Colt offense was back in business at the start of the 4th quarter. Torgerson connected with Crippen on a 16 yard pass and Cullen Keyes raced 52 yards for the Colts final touchdown. Sam Brown finished off a perfect night kicking as made his 4th PAT. Defensively, the Colts held the Dogies to 143 yards of total offense. Taylor Charette, TJ Crippen, and McQuade Stephens led a swarming Colt defense. Adam Cozzens, Ryan Hensleigh, Sam Brown, and Cullen Keyes also had nice defensive efforts. Offensively, Torgerson completed 7 of 8 passes for 143 yards and two touchdowns. Shawn Alder caught 3 passes for 113 yards and two touchdowns. TJ Crippen had 6 carries for 37 yards and two catches for 25 yards. Collen Grinsell finished the night with 80 yards rushing and Cullen Keyes finished with 52 yards rushing. The Colts record now stands at 3-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play. The Colts will play host to Manhattan on Friday night, September 26th. This will be the Homecoming for the Colts and kickoff will be at 7pm. Kudos to all the Colt fans that made the short drive to Forsyth. The great support is appreciated by our team. PPL Montana will be holding a tailgate party prior to the football game. Come early that night and enjoy good food and good company and then watch the Colts march into the stadium for their homecoming game against the Manhattan Tigers.
COLT BEAT WILDCATS
Andrew Torgerson had a great night for the Colstrip Colts as he had 3 touchdowns, including a 101 yard interception return, to lead the Colts to a 39-13 victory over the Plentywood Wildcats. Torgerson scored the first touchdown of the game when he raced around end 17 yards for a touchdown. TJ Crippen kicked the PAT and gave the Colts a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. In the 2nd quarter, Torgerson connected with Shawn Alder on a 42 yard pass pass. TJ Crippen and Cameron Ator each had nice runs to set up a Torgerson quarterback sneak. Crippen kicked the PAT and the Colts led 14-0 lead at halftime. In the third quarter, the Wildcats closed the gap to 14-7 capitalizing on a couple of Colstrip mistakes. The Colts then responded by putting together a 65 yard drive, on all running plays. Collen Grinsell capped the drive off with a 12 yard run. After stopping the Wildcats, the Colts were back in business. Grinsell broke off a 40 yard run that is too hard to describe. Cullen Keyes then caught a 11 yard pass from Torgerson and then had a 7 yard touchdown run to give the Colts a 26-7 lead. On their next possession, the Colts marched right back down on the field. Crippen and Grinsell each had nice runs with Grinsell capping off the drive with a 1 yard run. Torgerson’s interception took place a few minutes later and Sam Brown kicked the PAT to give the Colts a 39-13 win. Torgerson finished the night with 50 yards rushing and 158 yards passing. Grinsell had 139 yards on 18 carries and two touchdowns. TJ Crippen ran for 46 yards and had 28 yards receiving. Shawn Alder had 3 catches for 93 yards and Sam Brown had 1 catch that covered 22 yards. Taylor Charette and TJ Crippen led the Colt defense as each was in on numerous tackles. Ryan Hensleigh also had a great defensive game. The Colts are now 2-0 on the season. They will travel to Forsyth on Friday night to take on a very tough Dogie football time. This will be the first conference game for both teams and should be a very exciting. Gametime is 7pm. Get there early as we are expecting a full house down by the river.
Colts Win
Season Opener
The Colstrip Colts rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit to grab a 21-7 victory of the Big Timber Herders. The Colts were able to move the ball in the first half but hurt themselves with turnovers. Big Timber was able to put together a scoring drive and grab a 7-0 lead. The Colts were able to end to Herder scoring threats with interceptions by Collen Grinsell and Adam Cozzens.
After absorbing another turnover on their first drive of the 2nd half, the defensive rose to the occasion and intercepted another Herder pass. This time Tyler Boucher was the Colt making the pass interception. Andrew Torgerson immediately connected with Hayden Singleton on an 18 yard touchdown pass. Collen Grinsell ran the 2 point conversion in to give the Colts an 8-7 lead. A lead they carried into the third quarter.
Torgerson connected with Singleton on the first play of the 4th quarter. The pass covered 43 yards and put the Colts in scoring position. TJ Crippen ran the ball in from 1 yard out to give the Colts a 14-7 lead. The Colts were able to stymie the Herder offense again and the offense went back to work. The key to the next touchdown drive was the running of Crippen and Torgerson. Torgerson ran the ball in from one yard out and then Sam Brown kicked the PAT to give the Colts a 21-7 lead.
Tyler Boucher ended the last Herder attempt at scoring when he intercepted an errant Herder pass.
The Colt defense had a great night. The Colts limited the Herders to 61 yards rushing and 51 yards passing. Taylor Charette.TJ Crippen led the Colts in tackles. McQuade Stephens, Ryan Hensleigh and Cameron Ator also had nice defensive efforts. Boucher had two pass interceptions and Adam Cozzens and Collen Grinsell each intercepted one pass.
Offensively, Andrew Torgerson connected on 11 of 17 passes for 182 yards. Torgerson also had 12 carries for 36 yards. Sam Brown caught 4 passes for 42 yards. Shawn Alder had a one big catch for 48 yards also had one carry for 6 yards. Taylor Charette had two catches for 19 yards and ran the ball two times for 13 yards. Hayden Singelton had two big catches for 61 yards and a one touchdown catch. TJ Crippen had one catch for 8 yards and ran the ball 12 times for 39 yards. Collen Grinsell had 62 yards rushing on 15 carries and caught one pass for 4 yards.
The Colts will travel to Plentywood to play the Wildcats Friday night.
